Autumn Engagement Shoot at Irene Farm

The super talented Hannalee from Pretoria-based Hannalee Photography took the cutest pics for this Engagement shoot, on a beautiful Autumn afternoon in the Highveld. I love it when the couples' personality comes through film, just as it does here. It's testimony to a great photographer and a couple who are truly in love. I have always loved the surrounds of Irene Farm too, so I just had to do this post! To view the full post by Hannalee, click here.

Bridesmaid Woes are over with Forever New

If you live in Gauteng and don't know about Forever New, then you really are living under a rock. Forever New is a new-ish Australian chain of super fab clothing stores. They always stock the most splendid clothing and accessories in the colours I absolutely adore: peaches, salmon, soft pinks, duck egg blues... My credit card takes a proper beating every time I walk into a Forever New. Which is often. And is also why I know that instead of undergoing the arduous task of getting bridesmaids dresses made, you can simply get them at Forever New if it suits your colour palette. Whether it be the dress, the shoes or the bag, you are sure to find something at one of the many Gauteng stores (Cresta, Sandton, The Zone, Clearwater, Fourways Mall, Eastgate and Woodlands, The Glen, Melrose Arch). I want it! I want it all!

Sugar Coated Raindrops for your sweet tooth

I was fortunate enough to attend a splendid wedding of a good friend this past weekend and an awesome touch was the fabulous little cupcakes which made up the wedding cake. A good friend of the bride, Natasha Thorne of Sugar Coated Raindrops, a graduate of the esteemed Prue Leith College of Food & Wine, made these beautiful cupcakes and presented them in see-through gift favour boxes. Needless to say, they were a great hit.

The vintage inspired cake was for a 21st and is just as lovely!

Although she is based in Cape Town, her sister, Jade, also bakes the most divine treats and is based in Johannesburg. Visit Natasha’s site (sugarcoatedraindrops.co.za) or Jade's (sugarbeancake.com) and be ready to be blown away by their awesome talents.

Succulent Inspiration

I'm loving the idea of using succulents at a wedding. They are actually such beautiful plants and the colours and shapes are amazing. If you thought that succulents could just be used as flowers or foliage, think again. You can use them as adornment on a headpiece, as little favours, in your boutonnieres and even on your cake or as a centrepiece. So so so pretty! Here is our succulent inspiration board for you to drool over:

DIY Idea: Ribbon Wands

It’s DIY Thursday! And we have the perfect alternative to the boring old confetti and rice for when you and your groom walk out the church as man and wife: ribbon wands! They are easy to make, can be used later in the evening when you leave the ceremony and make a cute memento...

What you will need:

  • Long wooden skewers – the ones that you use to make sosaties are fine (from any supermarket or grocery store). Preferably the ones without the sharp pointed edges...you don’t want the flowergirls poking their eyes out!

  • Approx 30cm - 60cm ribbon in your wedding colors. You can decide on the length here, but make sure all the ribbons you use have the same length. You can opt for one ribbon colour or a few in your wedding colours, thick or thin. Moi Decor has the most stunning collection of fabric ribbons in the most beautiful colours. In this example they have used thin satin ribbon in three colours. More ribbon makes more impact!

Instructions

Simply cut the ribbon in your desired length. If the ribbon is thin you can get away with tying it tightly on the skewer. If they are slightly thicker you may need some Bostik to glue the ribbon to the skewer. See what works best and test it before your big day!

Something for the groom....

Happy Monday! Pamper parties are always centred on the bride and there is (sadly) hardly a thought when it comes to the groom's pamper needs. Enter Colcutter. This is a super concept: based in Centurion, it is an old world men's grooming salon specialising in gentleman's haircuts, cut throat shaves as well as threading. They offer a sport loving plasma screen, great music and a complimentary Millers and can also travel to your wedding venue. Let them package the perfect male bonding experience entailing premium whiskeys, cognac and fine Cuban cigars, while at the same time setting a perfect platform for some incredible wedding album shots!

Stunning Bridal Wear by Joss Bridal

If you are looking for the perfect bespoke wedding dress or bridesmaids dresses, then you definitely should have a look at Joss Bridal. She has the most wonderful eye when it comes to making your ideal dress and incorporates soft silhouettes with layering, hand beading and draping to get that stunning look. What I love about her style is that it is so soft and chic and isn’t too “ballroom-y” and stiff. According to Joss, there is a trend now in 2011 going into 2012 in that brides want to be relaxed on their wedding day, so comfort is key. Think light weight fabrics, ankle lengths, faded hand dyed undertones and layering together with soft lace. Slimlines are also a big trend as are mixing textures. Have a look at her gallery, and you will see exactly what she means! Visit jossbridal.co.za

The perfect wedding at Imperfect Perfection

Happy Friday! I came across this venue, Imperfect Perfection, fairly recently and I must say, it has become one of my top 5 Gauteng venues (along with Hazeldene Hall, Turbine Hall and The Rand Club - number 5 to make itself known next week, so watch this space). It’s perfect for a rustic inspired wedding and is awesome for photos. I just love the look of this place! Ofcourse the photographers at Blackframe Photography have a lot to do with why I love this place so much! Enjoy!
