Top wedding venues in Gauteng for 2015 - Part 2

As a follow up to our Part 1 on Gauteng’s top wedding venues for 2015, we would like to present you with our next 5 picks for Part 2:

Katys Palace Bar A rooftop venue in Kramerville, Sandton, that boasts some magnificent views over the city? Industrial chic meets eclectic vintage? Yes please! If you are looking for something different in terms of detail and architecture, look no further than Katy’s Palace Bar. You will forget you are in Sandton once you step through their doors.

Val Bonne If you are looking for a French country feel then consider ValBonne Country Estate in Modderfontein, which was once a farmer’s wheat barn. Their stunning stone and wood heritage building boasts French charm, coupled nicely with amazing views over the lawns and the dam. There is a downstairs stone dining area, a cocktail area and an amphitheater.

Poortjie Saal Venue & Guesthouse This Heidelburg venue is so unique in that it combines modern/contemporary/industrial on a farm 30 min away from hustle and bustle of Johannesburg. They don’t have a website at the moment (they are THAT new – they only joined Facebook in August) but the few weddings that have been held there look like fun filled, laid back affairs. The venue also offers accommodation for guests. Poortijie Saal is definitely for the bride who is looking for something different!

The Stone Cellar Another Heidelburg venue makes our list in the form of The Stone Cellar, situated on the slopes of the Suikerbosrand River Valley. The original milk parlor has been remodelled into a unique chapel, providing seating for 150 guests on handcrafted church style benches and optional hay bales. The reception area houses glass chandeliers and modern design elements, thus creating a festive farm atmosphere. Together with handcrafted wooden tables, and vintage dining chairs, this venue will appease the bride looking for rustic country charm not too far from the city.

River Meadow Manor Tucked away in tranquil Irene and surrounded by oak trees, River Meadow Manor, is rich with historical significance as the original Manor House was a wedding gift from General Jan Christiaan Smuts to his eldest daughter Eirene during 1926. The venue has a chapel and stunning gardens. Its colonial charm coupled with its gourmet cuisine makes this venue one to seriously consider.

Top wedding venues in Gauteng for 2015 - Part 1

Venues in and around Pretoria and Johannesburg are a dime a dozen with traditional wedding venues and established estates being the most popular. However, one of the trends I’ve seen is utilising an existing space (restaurant, function hall) as a venue. These may not be a super obvious choice when planning a wedding but coupled with the right decor (and attitude) these newer venues can do the trick! Here are our the first five of our top ten venues in Gauteng for 2015:

White Light One of The Forum Company’s newest additions to their already impressive list of venues, is White Light. It is a chic, crisp functional space close to Lanseria airport and has a lovely chapel-esque area for the nuptials as well as beautiful country scenery. Lots of natural light and voluminous ceilings add to the industrial country feel this venue offers.

The Private Room With a sweeping view of Jozi, this modern, enclosed space in Kyalami allows you to put your stamp on it. Used for birthdays, corporate functions and product launches, The Private Room is also an option for couples who are looking for a fuss free wedding. These guys have their own team of chefs, barmen and organisers, so it doesn't get easier than this!

Shine Studios If the idea of a New York "City Love" wedding appeals, then look at Shine Studios in Braamfontein. They have a few different options for events/ launches/ commercial productions and I particularly love the view of Newtown and Nelson Mandela Bridge! You will have to bring in all your tables, chairs, linens, caterers etc. but the end result is worth it.

Olive & Plates Located in the heart of Jozi at WITS, Olive & Plates is a Cape Dutch styled venue, run by their very own caterers. They also have a hall that can be used as a chapel. Good food, lovely architecture and beautiful gardens... what's not to love?

Villa Paradiso Situated in Hartebeespoort Dam, right by the newly refurbished cable car, Villa Paradiso is 4 star country manor with chapel functionality, surrounded by the majestic Magaliesburg mountains. It has lovely views of the dam and is photo opportunities up the Harties Cable Way make this venue a winner.

A Pre-Raphaelite Wedding

This wedding has to be one of the most gorgeous ones we have seen in a long time! We can't decide what we love more: the bride's amazingly beaded dress, the bridesmaids getup, the simplicity of the menus or the astounding reception. The wedding is both dreamy and surreal. It is definitely worth a look. For more on this wedding, visit Rock My Wedding. Photography by Sarah Gawler .
